Black Panther Written Case Study

The company that produced Black Panther was Marvel Studios LLC which is an American motion picture studio based at The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California and is a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios.  It is the eighteenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

CASTING-WHO? WHY? HOW MUCH?

Black Panthers cast centres itself around black excellence. The movie is being coined as the first big budget film to have a black superhero. Which is a powerful turning point on screen, just to be able to see a hero of colour, this movie helps break the stereotypes that have plagued Hollywood when it comes to the roles people of color play. Wesley Snipes mentioned his intention to work on a Black Panther film in 1992, and the project developed through several changes over the era, but did not come to fruition. In 2005, Marvel Studios announced Black Panther as one of ten films based on Marvel characters to be distributed by Paramount Pictures, with Mark Bailey hired to write a script in January 2011. Cole and Coogler joined in 2015, and additional cast joined in May 2016, making it the first Marvel film with a predominantly black cast. "To be able to see African countries, black people as leaders with agency with the ability to create and control, that's a powerful, powerful message,” said ‘Black Power’ activist, Dennis Walker. The Black Panther has also eclipsed budgets of fellow marvel movies, as it was a big story that deserved to be told in a big way, and they wanted to do it justice due to the cultural aspects.  Black panther could help bridge the pay gap for people of colour. It is directed by Ryan Coogler, written by Coogler and Joe Robert Cole, and Chadwick Boseman, the actor who plays  T’Challa/Black Panther was paid $874,126. Alongside Michael B. Jordan who plays Killmonger, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis. Black Panther Marvel’s African-oriented comic book adaptation, is on track to become the most successful movie at the box office for a film with a primarily black cast, generating an estimated $192 million over its three-day opening weekend in the united states.

PRODUCTION BUDGET- HOW MUCH? WHAT MIGHT IT BE SPENT ON?

Black Panthers production budget was $200 million dollars which would of been spent on above the line (creative talent), below the line (direct production costs), post-production (editing, visual effects, etc.), and other things such as (insurance, completion bond, etc.) But this staggering amount was not inclusive of the advertising and marketing aspects
